Specialized Review of Test and Drain Valve
The test and drain valve is a type of 3-position valve and has three modes: off, test, and drain. The orifice of the valve is 0.5 inches in the test mode and 1 inch in the drain mode. Using this valve means that one piece performs both the test and drain functions in the automatic fire extinguishing system. This piece also has an orifice and side glass.
The test and drain valve is a type of Fire hydrants. This valve is one of the most widely used valves in fire extinguishing systems and building firefighting, especially sprinkler systems.
The Test & Drain Valve has three positions: OFF / Test / Drain, and the functions of each of the three stages are as follows:
- OFF position: In this stage, the fluid flow is completely cut off.
- Test position: In this position, the fluid passes through the orifice that has a flow rate equal to that of a sprinkler, and it acts like a sprinkler bulb breaking.
- Drain position: In situations where there is a desire to drain the fluid flow from the pipe. For repair or service of the sprinkler network, the valve handle can be placed in the Drain position.
This valve has a Sight Glass that shows the flow of fluid. If the zone control system does not respond to the flow of fluid, the test and drain valve can detect a defect in the zone control system. Generally, it is likely that the water flow switch is faulty. Thus, the presence of a Sight Glass on the valve is very important.
