The term OSY stands for “outside stem and yoke” or “outside screw and yoke”. In this faucet model, there is a long and narrow rod that is connected to the handle (Handwheel) on the top of the valve on one side and to the slide (Gata) on the other side. When you close the valve, the handwheel is on top of the threaded stem. By turning the handwheel counter-clockwise, the stem moves up and the valve opens. When the valve is open, if you turn the handwheel clockwise, the stem moves down and the valve closes. The main difference between normal valves and OSY shut-off valves is the ability to visually detect whether the valve is open or not.
